You get way more articulations and flexibility with BWW as well. It isn't BAD per say, but I prefer the sound of Berlin Woodwinds. Here's a demo piece I wrote for it that just uses the Wind Ensemble and Solos so you can hear it completely raw: If you want saxophones, I heavily recommend Sample Modeling. I think the saxophone is the weakest instrument in it as well. I have it and it's definitely not my favorite. * Best Service Eduardo Tarilonte Era II Medieval LegendsĮdit - not all of these are expensive, but it'd cost a small fortune to get them all. * East West Quantum Leap Silk, Gypsy, Ra and Storm Drum ethnic/exotic/medieval/rare/strange instruments * Soniccouture's Grand Marimba or Orange Tree Samples Paradise Marimba * Premier Sound Factory and Ample Sound both do upright basses * Orange Tree Samples soon to be released Evolution Jazz Guitar or Impact Soundworks Archtop

Some other good companies/sites to check out:Ī good place to start your research from is the Buyer's Basic Guide to Orchestral Sample Libraries at: Versilian Studios (as part of their Chamber Orchestra 2 pack) Sonokinetic Historic / folk / ethnic / unusual instruments: (Many of these companies also offer parts of the packages, individual instruments, ensembles, etc.)Ĭompanies that focus on individual instrument libraries:Ĭompanies that offer ensemble or phrase based libraries: Native Instruments (via SoundIron and Audiobro) OK, here goes.Ĭompanies that offer larger ranges of libraries which are orchestral packages: To clarify airflamesred's list, and to add a few. for example, a woodwinds library, a solo string library or just a solo cello, a guitar bundle or single jazz guitar, a solo harp, etc. In general, if you're looking for more instrument control, I think you'll be better off staying away from the every-instrument-under-the-sun collections, and purchasing specific libraries. And I think that's probably where you're at. For that, I rely on more specific libraries. But, in general, I don't rely on any of those libraries to give me the most detailed, expressive control over solo instruments. I don't regret those purchases because there are some real gems in each one. I have several all-in-one instrument libraries, such as Kontakt Factory Library, Halion Sonic SE, IK SampleTank 2.5, and the Garritan Ultimate Collection.

But I also own a lot of other vibraphones, upright basses, muted trumpets, and jazz guitars, because I like having choices (and because I tend to go a little nuts during Black Friday sales.) For example, some of the instruments I own include the PSI Vibraphone by Paper Stone Instruments, CoreBass Pear by Orange Tree Samples, Session Horns Pro by Native Instruments which has a muted trumpet, and WarmJazz guitar by Pettinhouse. But when it comes to band instruments, I've chosen to build my library with the offerings of many different developers. I'm not a purveyor of orchestral instrumentation, so I'll defer to everyone else here to help you in that department. The more expensive instruments are obviously going to offer you a lot more control than the ones you'll get bundled with an all-in-one product. Is there any reason why all of the instruments have to be bundled in the same box? The reason I ask is because you can spend $xxx.xx for an all-in-one product which has every kind of instrument imaginable, including both a clarinet and a solo cello, or spend the same amount of money on nothing but a deeply-sampled solo cello and a deeply sampled clarinet.
